I had heard about Jason Sloan and his passive work from one of my roommates who had him as a professor. This show revolved around the ambient noises from radio and recording equipment. Every artifact was set up so you could listen to the static that is generated and normally seen as refuse in recording.

By using the depreciated static as the only art given we are allowed a listen at increasingly endangered noises. There is a forlorn quality in the tracks that borders on sympathetic. This taste of “imperfections” in sound is strengthened by the clarity of the sounds. Brought to the foreground the varying statics are allowed new recognition and subsequent blog posts.
